Wrecsam2029 Cultural Commissions

Are you a local arts, cultural or community organisation in Wrexham County? Do you have a bold idea for a playful cultural event or activity that could help Wrexham shine on a national stage? If you are, we want to hear from you!
We are inviting proposals for grants of up to £10,000 to deliver test events as part of a new Cultural Commissions Programme, supporting Wrexham’s journey towards becoming UK City of Culture 2029.
How much funding is available?
Following on from a successful grant application to the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF), we are inviting proposals for revenue grants from £5,000 up to £10,000 for your organisation to undertake a cultural / artistic project that could help Wrexham shine on the National stage.
This grant can be used to fund resources, venue hire, staff or freelance staff time.
All events MUST be completed by 31st January 2026.
Grant deadline: Closing date of this fund is midday 1st July 2025 with all supplementary documents submitted to funding@avow.org (within 12 hours of your grant form being submitted) for the application to be valid.
What type of projects are eligible?
We recognise that this project is about more than one event, and WCCT want to support a range of cultural and artistic projects and groups that demonstrate the following: We are looking at funding “test events”. By this, we mean small scale events or activities which pilot a new concept or idea, and which have the potential to be developed into large-scale and significant projects by 2029.
This programme, led by WCCT, is a strategic investment in Wrexham’s cultural economy – designed to increase resilience, drive innovation, and showcase the county’s capacity to deliver ambitious, inclusive and diverse cultural events.
What We’re Looking For?
Successful applicants will:
- Propose to deliver events or activities which are innovative, new and novel – Things which have not been done in Wrexham before or put a new spin on an existing concept.
- Demonstrate how their events or activities will be ‘playful’ – ‘playfulness’ will be the central theme of Wrexham’s City of Culture 2029 bid. Being ‘playful’ can mean lots of different things – we’re not prescriptive – we want to know what it means to you.
- Demonstrate the potential to engage new audiences with cultural experiences – reaching people who you may not have previously reached before.
- Propose an idea with local relevance and national significance – In 2029 we hope to welcome people from across the globe to Wrexham. Your event or activity should be as appealing to someone from Wrexham, as it is to someone visiting us from anywhere in the UK (or the world).
- Demonstrate how the proposed event aligns and contributes towards the Future Generations Seven Wellbeing Goals
All supported organisations will also receive tailored training and support to build organisational capacity and ensure high-quality delivery.
